Sacked ex-Australia coach Frank Farina suing club

Former Australia coach Frank Farina is suing Brisbane Roar for A$325,000 ($296,800), alleging the A-league club had “significantly damaged” his reputation in the way it handled his sacking after a drink-driving charge.

Farina was fired in October, days after being charged for his second drink-driving offence in less than three years, and he also said statements by club officials had hurt his employment prospects, according to court documents local media have reported.

St Etienne sack Perrin

St Etienne have sacked Alain Perrin as their coach after a run of poor form which saw the team suffering crushing defeats to Lille and Paris St Germain, the Ligue 1 club said on Tuesday.

Perrin is set to be replaced by his assistant Christophe Galtier.

The 53-year-old Perrin was appointed St Etienne coach in November 2008 after spells at Ligue 1 clubs Troyes, Olympique Marseille, Sochaux and Olympique Lyon, and Premier League Portsmouth.

Arsenal’s Eboue fit for trip to Burnley

Arsenal have received a big boost with the news that Emmanuel Eboue has been cleared to face Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday after recovering from a hamstring strain that ruled him out of Sunday’s 2-1 win at Liverpool.

There is a setback, however for midfielder Denilson, who is injured.

“Denilson will not be available but apart from that everybody should travel. We have Eboue back in the squad,” manager Arsene Wenger told the Premier League club’s website. “We had a short recovery time so we have a few bumps and bruises.”

French Federation member wants Domenech fired

Guy Chambily, a member of the French Football Federation’s governing body, has called for Raymond Domenech to be replaced as national team coach, following a string of poor performances during their World Cup qualifying campaign, that saw them making the finals on a controversial goal from Thierry Henry.

“I wrote a letter to (FFF’s chairman) Jean-Pierre Escalettes asking him to place the renewal of Domenech’s contract on the agenda of the next meeting of the federal council on Dec. 18,” Chambily told soccer magazine France Football.

“I have two goals: the departure of Raymond Domenech and the protection of Jean-Pierre Escalettes, a very good man, who I know has been affected, even traumatised, by the situation we find ourselves in.”

“I know the majority of the council members don’t want to keep Domenech. My only fear is that they beat a retreat for personal reasons,” added the 77-year-old businessman.

“The FFF begged me not to raise the problem and Jean-Pierre Escalettes asked me to think about it twice, referring to the media outburst that my request will cause.”
