After day one of the 2010 SEC Indoor Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships, the University of South Carolina is leading the women’s race. The University of Arkansas is hosting the championship events at the Randal Tyson Track Center, in Fayetteville, Ark.

Kettiany Clarke won South Carolina’s first-ever title in the women’s pentathlon at the SEC Indoor Championships. She won the pentathlon in a score of 4,064 points. During the five-event competition, she posted marks of 8.43 in the 60-meter hurdles, 5-6.5 in the high jump, 39-5 in the shot put, 18-10 in the long jump and a time of 2:25.01 in the 800 meters.

“It feels so amazing to be the first South Carolina SEC champion, my teammates were my biggest supporters as I was running the 800,” Clarke said. “I just wanted to finish the 800 as best that I could and know that my teammates would be proud of me.”

After one event scored on the women’s side, South Carolina leads the team scoring with 10 points, Alabama is second with eight points and Kentucky rounds out the top three with six points.
