Red-hot LaVerne Jones-Ferrette blasts into 60m final

LaVerne Jones-Ferrette of US Virgin Islands on fire in Doha

LaVerne Jones-Ferrette, the red hot favourite to win the women’s 60m dash at the IAAF World Indoor Championships fired into the final of the event with the fastest time.

The US Virgin Island national record holder and fastest woman this season, at 6.97secs – posted a fast 7.05secs to top semi-final two with fellow Caribbean representative Chandra Sturrup following her home in a seasonal best of 7.20.

Jamaican Olympic 200m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown looked just as impressive in her heat, clocking 7.07secs to beat Gabon’s Ruddy Zang Milama following her home in a national second of 7.13.

Another Jamaican, Sheri-Ann Brooks, won the final semis in 7.14 – beating American Carmelita Jeter (7.15) to the line. Also making the final were Tahesia Harrigan (IVB) – 7.22, Frances’ Myriam Soumare (7.21).

The final is expected to go off later on this evening.
