Chinese World record holder and Olympic gold medalist Liu Xiang won men's 110 meters hurdles gold medal at the China Athletics Open in Beijing, China here Saturday evening.

Proving the pundits right, the 24-year-old Liu clocked a solid time of 13.18 seconds, slowing down in the final 10 metres to the finish line at the test event for the Beijing Olympics.

In front of the 45,000 fans Saturday in Beijing's new National Stadium, Liu led the impressive 1-2-3 finish for china, as Shi Dongpeng took second in 13.29 and Ji Wei finished third in 13.41.

''I didn't exert myself completely because it is only a test event,'' Liu said.

"Today the atmosphere was very good," Liu added. "Although it was a test event, I gave it one hundred percent. Today I felt really good. I hope the Bird's Nest will be the place where my second dream begins."
