Olympic hero Richard Thompson is recovering in the hospital after involving in a motor vehicle accident early Thursday morning, reports from the twin islands said.

Despite escaping any serious injuries, the sprinter is currently nursing bruises to his forehead and suffering from neck pains. He was, however, being held for further inspections at Port of Spain General Hospital and was due to be released later on today.

Thompson won two silver medals at the Beijing Olympic Games last summer.

The 23-year-old finished second behind Jamaican sprinter sensation Usain Bolt in a personal best on 9.89-seconds, before anchoring the 4×100 team to silver medal, again behind Bolt and the powerhouse Jamaican team.
