BARCELONA, Spain — Jamaica’s two-time Olympic 200m champion and reigning World 100m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown will run the half-lap event at the Mitin Ciutat de Barcelona, to be held in the in the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys of Montjuic on 25 July, organisers announced this week.
Campbell-Brown, who defended her 200m crown from Athens at the Beijing Olympics in China last summer, hammered a strong field to win the event in a meeting record of 21.98 seconds last year.
That performance set the tone for her becoming only the second woman in Olympic history to repeat as 200m champion, when she posted a blistering personal best of 21.74 to win her third Olympic individual title.
The Jamaican is scheduled to open her season this weekend at meeting in Claremont, Florida, as a warm up for the Reebok Grand Prix in New York City on May 30.
She was slated to mark her season debut at the Jamaica Invitational on May 2, but a toe injury forced her to miss the meet, as well as last weekends Adidas Classics in Carson, California.
