TEXAS, USA — US Virgin Islands’ Tabarie Henry ran a big personal best in the men’s 400m on his way to defeating an impressive looking world sprint double champion Tyson Gay at the Texas Invitational meet on the fast University of Texas track here in Austin on Saturday.
Henry, a standout sophomore at Barton County Junior College in Kansas, convincingly won the one lap event in 45.09 seconds, bettering his previous best of 45.19, set a year ago in the Olympic semi-finals.
American Lionel Larry ran 45.27 for second with sprint champion Gay finishing third in an impressive 45.57 personal best. Gay now joins double short sprint world record holder Usain Bolt and former world’s fastest man Asafa Powell as the top sprinters on the 45-seconds chart this season.
Elsewhere, Antigua and Barbuda’s Brendan Christian won the men’s 200m in a slight wind-aided 19.98seconds, and fourth in the 100m in 10.03, won by Panama’s Alonso Edward 9.97seconds (+2.3mps) over Jamaican Steve Mullings’ 10.00secs
