LONDON — Nicola Sanders, a silver medal winner at the World championship is the latest athlete forced to withdraw from the Aviva Great Britain & Northern Ireland team for this weekend’s European Team Championships in Portugal.

Sanders, who was scheduled to take part in the 4×400 metres relay, suffered an ankle injury in training and has been ruled out.

She joins Montell Douglas, who was also down to for the women’s 4x100m relay, sprinter James Dasaolu and hurdlers Natasha Danvers, the Olympic 400m hurdles silver medallist and 100m hurdler Gemma Bennett.

Meanwhile, Craig Pickering, who won the 100m in the event’s previous guise as the European Cup in 2007, has been brought in to replace Dasaolu in the men’s 4x100m relay.

Dasaolu, who has looked impressive this season, suffered a hamstring injury at the Golden League meeting in Berlin on Sunday.
