PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad — Grenadian young star Kirani James added another title to his growing collection this season, when he landed the U20 boys 400m dash at the Pan-American Junior Championships at Hasley Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Friday.
Also touching down an impressive performance at the championships on Friday was American Wayne Davis, who set a World Junior record in the 110m Hurdles.
Davis, the World Youth title champion from 2007, sizzled to 13.08 to lower the previous mark of 13.23, set by Artur Noga of Poland in 2006.
Meanwhile, James, who earlier this month won the quarter-mile at the IAAF World Youth Championships, was in winning form again, as he snatched his specialty from USA’s Tavaris Tate.
The Grenadian, who was behind at the half-way point, showed his true talent with his late kick to clock 45.43 to win over Tate, who was second in 45.50.
Another highlight from the championships came from American sprinter Marcus Rowland, who blasted to a personal best of 10.03 to win the 100 metres over fellow American D’Angelo Cherry (10.17).
American Chalonda Goodman won the girls’ race with 11.22.
