Ed MugeCAPE ELIZABETH, Maine — Kenyans Ed Muge and Irene Limika won the men’s and women’s Beach To Beacon 10-kilometer road races here in Cape Elizabeth on Saturday.

Muge, who was winning his second crown, posted 28:05 to take the men’s race, after fending off a strong challenge from fellow countryman Boaz Cheboiywo, who crossed the finishing tape, at 28:09.

Limika easily took the women’s crown with 32:06 – breaking loose from Nadia Ejjafini of Ethiopia (32:13) to continue her surge on the American roads in recent weeks. Berhane Adere of Ethiopia (32:28) recovered from a bad fall early in the race to take third.

This year staging was the 12th running of Maine’s biggest road race in Cape Elizabeth and it featured some 5,600 contestants from 16 countries and 43 states.
