Kent State Men, Miami Women Selected To Win MAC Cross Country Titles

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Kent State men’s and Miami women’s cross country teams were picked to win their respective titles at the 2009 MAC Cross Country championship as voted on by the league’s head cross country coaches.

Kent State finished third at last year’s MAC Men’s Cross Country Championships. The Golden Flashes welcome back five student-athletes from last year’s squad, including last year’s fourth place finisher Aiman Scullion and 10th place finisher Tony Jordanek. Others returning for the Flashes include Scott Hilditch, John Minen and Hosea Laktabai.

Miami was picked to finish second behind Kent State. The RedHawks were followed by Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan, while Buffalo and Ohio rounded out the top six spots in the poll. Akron, Toledo and Bowling Green rounded out the men’s poll.

Miami is coming off it’s first-ever Mid-American Conference title after racking up 39 points at last year’s Championship. The RedHawks had four runners that finished in the top ten and defeated second place Akron by 42 points.

Six of the seven runners on last year’s championship team return this season, including last year’s third place finisher Rachel Patterson. Amanda Mirochna, Laura Neufarth, Kelsey McHugh, Katie Lenanhan and Maggie Bingham will also return for the RedHawks.

Akron was picked to finish in second place on the women’s side, while Ohio was tabbed to finish third. Toledo, Kent State and Central Michigan filled out the top six sports in this year’s poll. Eastern Michigan (seventh), Bowling Green (eighth), Western Michigan (ninth), Buffalo (10th), Ball State(11th) and Northern Illinois (12th) rounded out the women’s poll.

The 2009 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Ohio University, will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009.
