Johannesburg – A leaked e-mail shows South Africa’s athletics body ordered gender tests on champion runner Caster Semenya before the world championships in Berlin last month, a South African newspaper claimed Friday.
The respected Mail & Guardian weekly published what it said was e-mail correspondence about women’s 800m champion Semenya between ASA general manager Molatelo Malehopo and team doctor Harold Adams.
In the e-mail dated August 5, Adams allegedly proposes two options in dealing with ‘the current confidential matter’: ‘We get a gynae opinion and take it to Berlin,’ or ‘We do nothing and I will handle these issues if they come up in Berlin.’
Malehopo allegedly replies that Adams ‘go ahead with the necessary tests, that the IAAF might need.’ …..Read More
