It seemed like a perfect marathoning day for Russians.

And the results of the women’s race at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday would apparently underscore that idea. Russians Liliya Shobukhova and Lidiya Grigoryeva were first and third. Irina Mikitenko of Germany, who was born in the former Soviet Union, took second.

Shobukhova thought the cold contributed to the dawdling early pace that played right into her feet, given that she is the fourth-fastest woman ever at 5,000 meters.
