Deena Kastor had the kind of marathon day Sunday in Chicago that most of us have experienced in our nightmares, which is where we want them to stay. Hers came to the light of day on Chicago’s frigid streets, but Kastor emerged smiling, optimistic, and apparently none the worse for wear.
“I feel ecstatic about my training the last month, I enjoyed myself in the race despite some unexpected problems, and my foot feels fine,” she said after finishing sixth in 2:28:50.
