Jamaica's discus thrower begs for country support

National discus record holder and International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championships representative, Jason Morgan, is appealing for financial help to enable him to continue competing at the international level.

The 26 year-old who is based in Ruston, Louisiana, where he works out with his former college coach Larry Carmichael, says unless he can come up with about US$1,000 a month for supplements and meet fees, he might as well pack it in.

“I am not asking for too much,” he told the Observer in an interview from Ruston yesterday.

“It’s especially hard on a thrower to be working out five to six days a week running, lifting and throwing. It takes a lot out of my body. So for vitamins and supplements and local meets entree fees my cost will run me about US$1,000 a month for everything to go smooth….Read More
