Athletics South Africa (ASA) will oppose a takeover by the country’s Olympic body, it has been reported.
The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) announced on Saturday that its board member, Ray Mali, would assume command of ASA’s administration on Monday morning.
According to South African news reports however Mali is likely to be met with resistance from the federation’s suspended board members and senior managers, who have refused to vacate their positions.
ASA and its beleaguered president Leonard Chuene have come under fire in recent months over the handling of the Caster Semenya gender case.
SASCOC plans for Mali to form an interim board to govern and regulate athletics in South Africa as the sport’s embattled federation faces restructuring. It added the suspended ASA board and members of senior management would face disciplinary hearings.
