ST. GEORGE’S; Grenada: The name Kirani James has been likened to triple world record holder Usain Bolt of Jamaica. James broke Bolt’s six year old Carifta record in the Boys under 20 400m in St. Lucia in April clocking 45.45 to beat the old mark by almost a second (0.90).

James went on to win every race he has competed in, in 2009, with a similar dominance displayed by Bolt. He won the World Youth 200m and 400m gold, clocking 45.24 in the 400m and took the Pan American Junior title in 45.43.

Like Bolt he is tall and long striding. But the confident and humble Grenadian is clearly bent to being his own man blazing a trail on his own.
