Valerie Vili to defend her world indoor shot put title

Valerie Vili will defend her world indoor shot put title at the World Indoor Championships in Doha Qatar in March, Athletics New Zealand (ANZ) said.

The Olympic and World outdoor champion won the indoor title in Valencia in 2008 with a New Zealand and Oceania record of 20.19m, beating Nadzeya Ostapchuk of Belarus by 45 cm.

Vili will compete in the qualifying rounds in Qatar on 13 March, with the final set down for 14 March 2010.

At this stage Vili’s first outdoor competition this season will be at the Porritt Classic in Hamilton on Saturday 13 February 2010.
