Ethiopian Meseret Defar just missed 5,000 meters world record at GE Galan

Meseret Defar of Ethiopia missed the indoor world record by less than half a second as she won the 5,000 meters at the GE Galan on Wednesday.

Defar finished in 14 minutes, 24.85 seconds, just 0.48 seconds short of the record she set at the same venue last year.

Cuba’s Dayron Robles won the 60-meter hurdles in 7.49 seconds while countryman Alexis Copello won the men’s triple jump with a leap of 17.23 meters, six centimeters better than world-record holder Christian Olsson of Sweden.

Debbie Dunn outran fellow American Ebonie Floyd to win the women’s 400 meters in 52.35 seconds, while Croatia’s Blanka Vlasic cleared 2.01 meters to win the women’s high jump.

Viktor Kuznetzov jumped a season’s best 8.09 meters to win the men’s long jump ahead of fellow Ukrainian Andreiy Makarchev.

    I just love to watch these two ladies run. They leave everthing on the track everytime.

    pamela was injured last year by the time she recovered she could not prepare in time for the championships from what i read she plans to return 2 the track. the article spoke about her marriage and her frugality in terms of investing the monies which she earned. i hope she does return 2 the track fully recovered i wish i had the site at my fingertips mayb bunny or waynef will do that
