Jamaican sprint sensation, the exciting Usain Bolt says he is unlikely to target Michael Johnson’s 400m world record until after his London 2012 mission.

American Johnson, world record holder is set at 43.18 seconds and he has suggested the Olympic and world 100m and 200m champion should change events.

However, Bolt said: “The 400m is painful! I think it is somewhere in the future but hopefully after 2012.”

He clocked an impressive 43.58s split at a recent 4×400 relay and will run over 300m in the Czech Republic in May…..Read More

  1. The same thing i was saying a couple of weeks ago Stacy….. Usain Bolt must first Reign Dominion in his events {100m/200m}over a good period of time….and after he,s had enough, then he can consider moving to another event of his and Coach Mills choice in there time…but don,t ever make the opposition coaxed him{Usain Bolt} out of his bread & butter….trust me Bolt….these guys don,t have you at heart.

  2. You’re right Tony. I think Bolt is smart enough not to make anyone coax him into doing something he isn’t ready for. and even if he wasn’t, Mills certainly is. And as he says, he does what his coach tells him to do. What he runs and when he runs is up to Mills, regardless of what MJ wants.

  3. I thought you guys might be interested in this thread on BBC discussing what Usain could run in the 300, but then they discuss the 400 as well, and I’m surprised by how many don’t think he’d break the WR.

I’ve learned not to underestimate anything this guy can do. I thought he might be in for trouble at the WC after watching Tyson run 19.58 early in the season and hearing that he was partying and travelling more than training and then the car accident happened, but the guy still pulled out 2 more WRs. Usain can do whatever he wants to and whatever Mills says he can do.

  4. In order to keep things interesting, he will at some point run the 400M. It could be this year, maybe in Jamaica at a small meet. I for one don’t want anything dramatic this year. because the next two year will be demanding and exciting. I don’t want anyone getting hurt doing something irrelevant. it is “gold” that matters.

  5. Bunny, he has already said that he will not race any more 400m for the rest of the year so we will have to wait for next year for the next 400m. The closest we are going to get to see where his endurance level is, is to see if he goes for and breaks the WR in the 300m.
