Phillips Idowu may yet compete in the 2010 Commonwealth Games despite announcing his withdrawal from the event on Tuesday.

Idowu, who is the defending triple jump champion, confirmed his absence following news of a fallen bridge in Delhi. Organisers of the Games have been working around the clock to fight endless setbacks in the build-up to its October 3 commencement, with reports of unfit conditions in the Athletes’ Village compounded by a collapsed ceiling in the weightlifting arena.
