Jamaican sprint stars Asafa Powell and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce were among the highlighted athletes at the 33rd Milo Western Relays in Montego Bay, Jamaica on Saturday.

Powell, who will defend his World Championships medal later this summer teamed up with fellow Olympians Michael Frater, alongside Ainsley Waugh to win the men’s 4×100 metres relay crown in record setting performance of 38.53.

The former world record holder showed some dazzling early season display – turning on the turbos on the anchor leg for his MVP team.

“I felt quite good out there,” Powell said after his performance. “It is always a pleasure to come down here to Montego Bay and perform for my fans on this side of the island.

“It is good that we got the record,” he added.

Fraser-Pryce, the Olympic and world 100m champion also anchored the MVP women’s team to victory at the meeting, but just missed breaking a record.

She teamed up with Ayana Wilson, Sherone Simpson, and Sherika Williams to clock 43.68secs.

“I am happy with the way I ran today and the fact that the fans appreciated our effort,” said Fraser-Pryce.

“I always enjoy running here in Jamaica.”
