Doha, Qatar, October 05, 2011 – Doha, wrapped in IAAF branding with welcome flags and signage covering the city, is ready to welcome top officials from the IAAF family.

The IAAF Evaluation Commission for the 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championships is in Doha for their two day visit on October 5th and 6th.

Doha has transformed to a city that is truly ready to celebrate Athletics. As the evaluation visit gets underway, Doha is prepared to show exactly how a World Championships in Doha can be celebrated.

Mr. Abdulla Al-Zaini, President of the QAAF and Executive Director of Doha 2017 Bid Committee, commented: “I’m so proud to be part of this sport, and even prouder of this city. The love for Athletics in Doha will truly be shown during this visit. We are ready to host an outstanding World Championships in 2017. For us, this starts now. We are ready to bring Athletics to new levels.”

In Doha this week is also Andreas Thorkildsen, the Norweigan World and Olympic Javelin Champion, who is showing his support for the city where he has enjoyed competing in so much.

Andreas Thorkildsen stated: “Having experienced the energy and excitement from events in Doha, it is no wonder they are leaders when it comes to event hosting.

“They have always been committed to having the highest standards and in 2017 the World Championships will be even better.”
