KINGSTON, Jamaica (Sporting Alert) — Defending champions Jamaica College and Holmwood Technical will start the defense of their titles when the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championships starts this week.
The well-hyped championships, which is regarded as the perhaps the biggest of high school track and field championships in the world, will run from March 28 to 31.
Jamaica College (JC) won the boys crown last year with a tally of 280 points, 11 points more than arch rival Kingston College (KC), which finished on 269 points. The top five teams from last year were Calabar, Wolmers and Munro College.
All eyes will certainly be on young sprinter Jazeel Murphy, who race over both the 100m and 200m dashes.
Defending girls champion Holmwood Technical will seek its 10th successive hold on the female title. On the girl’s side, Sherika Jackson is amongst those in the spotlight.
The Championships will see over 2600 athletes from 233 schools – will take part in the event.
Meanwhile track and field fans will be able to enjoy live coverage of the meeting and Trinidad and Tobago’s four-time Olympic medal winner Ato Boldon will be a member of the SportsMax commentary team.
“The live stream will include live daily coverage from the National Stadium as well as features and analysis led by 4-time Olympic medalist Ato Boldon and renowned sports analyst and commentator, Lance Whittaker,” the release said.
