Strong sprints and throws fields expected for Colorful Daegu

DAEGU — Sprinters Walter Dix, Carmelita Jeter and Kirani James, as well as throwers Tatyana Lysenko and Betty Heidler are amongst the already confirmed stars for the Colorful Daegu Meeting, organisers said on Tuesday.

The track and field meeting, which will take place on May 16 is part of the IAAF World Challenge series.

Americans Dix and Jeter, who have both started the new campaign brightly, will race in the men’s ans women’s 100 metres dash fields.

Grenadian superstar James, who is looking to add the Olympic title to the world crown he won last summer, will open his outdoor individual 400m season in that specialty.

The meeting also offers other quality field.

The women’s hammer throw field is one of those with Daegu world champion Lysenko of Russia going up against world record holder Heidler of Germany, who had eight of the top ten best throws last season, but had to take silver in Korea.

The field will also include world bronze medallist Wenxiu Zhang, who currently holds the second best throw in the world this season.

Also racing at the meeting will be Americans Jason Richardson, David Oliver and world-leader Aries Merritt – who will face-off in the men’s 110m hurdles.

Elsewhere, 2009 World champion Brigitte Foster-Hylton of Jamaica, who opened her campaign with a sizzling 12.51 seconds at the Jamaica International Invitational last weekend is entered for the women’s 100m hurdles, while Ethiopian world indoor champion Mohammed Aman races in the men’s 800m event.

The men´s Shot Put contest will see world indoor champion Ryan Whiting going up against his fellow Americans Christian Cantwell and Adam Nelson, as well as Canadian record holder Dylan Armstrong.
