KINGSTON, Jamaica — Reigning Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce ran the quickest time of the semi-finals for the women’s 100m at the Jamaica Championships on Friday.
The 2008 Beijing champion clocked 11.02 seconds to win the first semis ahead of Sheri-Ann Brooks, who came home in 11.18, those were the only two to progress to the final from that heat.
Veronica Campbell-Brown was next quickest with a time of 11.03secs, a time she used to win heat two ahead of Sherone Simpson, 11.12 and Samantha Henry-Robinson (11.16).
Kerron Stewart, as expected took the third and last semi-final in 11.04, the same time as Aleen Bailey, with Schillonie Calvert (11.05) just behind.
In the men’s semi-finals, Asafa Powell dropped the quickest time, at 9.92secs to win the first heat, beating his training partner Nesta Carter, who stopped the clock at 9.95, while world champion Yohan Blake followed closely, at 9.96.
Usain Bolt wasted little energy in taking the second heat in a comfortable 10.01secs, despite having problems at the start.
The world-leader, who has already ran 9.76 and 9.79 this season got home ahead of Michael Frater 10.02 and Lerone Clarke 10.07.
Also making tonight’s final were Kemar Bailey-Cole (10.06) and Jacques Harvey (10.08).
