OSLO, Norway (Sporting Alert) — Jamaican superstar sprinter Usain Bolt laid down a dominating world-leading performance to win the men’s 200 metros dash at Thursday’s ExxonMobil Bislett Games, the sixth stop of the IAAF Diamond League meeting for 2013 in Oslo.
Bolt, after being upset by Justin Gatlin over 100m in Rome last week, promised to deliver a sub-20 seconds performance and that he did to take the victory in world-leading and meeting record time of 19.79 seconds, bettering the 20.00secs second earlier this year by his fellow countryman Nickel Ashmeade.
The World record holder was in a relax and playful mood again before his race, which helped him to the comfortable victory.
Jaysuma Saidy Ndure of Norway, who stayed with Bolt until the last 60m, was second in 20.36.
Churandy Martina of the Netherlands was disqualified for a false-start.
Zuzana Hejnova of the Czech Republic continues to impress this season, as she improves her term best to 53.60 to win the women’s 400m hurdles. Also running a season best in the race was Great Britain’s Perri Shakes-Drayton, who clocked 54.03 for second, with third going to USA’s Dalilah Muhammad, who ran a personal best of 54.33.
Yousef Ahmed Masrahi of Saudi Arabia recovered from a faulty-start decision to win the men’s 400m with a late kick. He won in 45.33seconds, beating Bahamian Ramon Miller (45.58), while Olympic silver medallist Luguelín Santos of the Dominican Republic faded to fourth.
Meseret Defar of Ethiopia easily ran the fastest time for 5000m this season, after using a last lap kick to separate her self from a small pack and on her way to running 14:26.90.
Viola Jelagat Kibiwot of Kenya took home second in a new personal best of 14:33.48, while Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba was third in a seasonal best of 14:37.68.
Ivet Lalova won the women’s 100m in 11.04, edging Ivory Coast’s Muriele Ahoure, who ran 11.05 and Ukraine’s Mariya Ryemyen (11.07).
