Netherlands sprinter Dafne Schippers will race in the women’s 200m at AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme – IAAF Diamond League Meet – in Brussels on September 11.
Schippers, who became the third fastest women ever in the 200m when she clocked a stunning 21.63 seconds to win the gold medal at the IAAF World Championships 2015 in Beijing, earlier this week, will be hoping to deliver another strong performance before closing out her long season.
The former heptathlon athlete, who only recently made the switch to sprints to take a break from the multi-event, finished second to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica in the women’s 100m, after running out of real estate.
She, however, returned in the longer version of the sprint event to chase down Fraser-Pryce’s training partner and countrywoman Elaine Thompson (21.66) to win the gold in the half lap.
Heading into the Brussels IAAF Diamond League Meeting, Schippers is sitting joint third in the rankings for the women’s 200m behind American Allyson Felix.
