Results from the 2016 Drake Relays on Friday night with action in the Rio Olympics Preview races.

The standout performance on the evening came in the men’s Rio Olympics Preview 400m where Olympic champion Kirani James ran a world-leading 44.08 seconds to beat arch rival LaShawn Merritt.

The Grenadian star battled through the chilly conditions to break his own meeting record and he said he was pleased with the outing.

Also collecting wins in the Rio Olympics Preview were American Jenny Simpson in the women’s 1500, USA’s Lorraine Ugen in the women’s Long Jump, Canada’s Shawn Barber in the men’s Pole Vault and American Bershawn Jackson in the men’s 400m Hurdles.
