Arkansas women and Texas A&M men head into the meeting as the favourites to win their respective division in the team title race, but they are expected to face very stiff competitions from start to finish.

The Razorbacks enter the national championships with the most qualifiers on the women’s side with 21 and their depth could be pivotal in fending off the likes of Kentucky Wildcats, who are a very strong candidate for the crown as well, in addition to Texas, LSU and Texas A&M.

On the men’s side, Texas A&M enters Eugene with 17 participants, but experienced head coach Pat Henry isn’t focusing on the number of athletes he took, but rather the output he gets from them.

“The numbers we have in the meet is not what wins now, what wins now is the quality of the performances,” said Henry.

“Numbers, though, give you more opportunities to have good performances. So, I’m pleased with the numbers we have in the meet.”

The Aggies men’s and women are each seeking a fifth national team championship and Henry is backing his 33 member squad to be in the mix in both title chases.

“The challenge for us each year is to be in the mix and both of our teams are in the mix,” he said. “Our men and women are each among the top five or six schools.

“If you go in there and do things correct, then you can be one of those teams that wins it. It’s about our performances now. We have enough people to win on both sides.”

Florida, Oregon, LSU, Arkansas and Oregon are expected to challenge the Aggies for the male team crown.

Live coverage of the championships will begin Wednesday on ESPNU at 7:30 p.m. ET and then continue on ESPN2 from 8:30 to 10 p.m., with streaming live coverage online from 3:20, with the men’s Decathlon.
