The event will be making its debut at the meeting, according to the organizers.

“After 33 years it was simply time to bring one of the most internationally successful disciplines of German athletics to Karlsruhe,” said Meeting Director Alain Blondel.

“With Christina Schwanitz, the spectators will be able to see and experience one of the greatest personalities of German sports.”

Schwanitz, who won the gold medal at the 2015 championship in Beijing will be hoping to defend that title next summer and the German will be using the Indoor season to help her prepare for what is expected to be a very busy outdoor schedule.

The 30-year-old has a lifetime best of 20.77 metres, which she set at the World Challenge Meeting in Beijing in May 2015.

Schwanitz successfully defended her European title in Amsterdam last July but was only sixth at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

She will be determined to put behind her that disappointment heading into the 2017 campaign.

Her best outdoor effort in the shot put last year was 20.17m.
