KINGSTON, Jamaica — Shericka Jackson and Demish Gaye landed the women’s and men’s 400m titles at the 2019 Jamaica National Championships here at the National Stadium on Sunday’s final day of competition.

Jackson of the MVP Track Club ran away from her rivals with a blistering finish to set a new personal best of 49.78 seconds to win the women’s crown.

The Olympic bronze medal winner at Rio 2016 ran a cautious opening 100m, but up the tempo in the second half of the race to overtake the leaders in the home straight before pulling away from the field convincingly.

Anastasia Le-Roy of Sprintec finished strongly to grab second in a season-best 50.94, while MVP’s defending champion Stephenie Ann McPherson was pushed back into third in a seasonal best 51.01.

Roneisha McGregor of Athletics Academy growth continued on Sunday after she clocked another personal best of 51.36 to take fourth place.

On the men’s side, Gaye from the Sprintec training group sealed his first national title with a season’s best time of 44.83 seconds.

The 26-year-old came into the homestretch with a narrow advantage, but switched gears to power away from the rest of the field in the final 80 metres.

Racers Track Club’s newly found star Terry Thomas extended his fine form at these championships, bagging second place with another lifetime best of 45.47.

Javon Francis battled home for third place with a season-best 45.60 to leave the trailing Rusheen McDonald back in fourth in 45.83.
