Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon 2022 results; Wins for Fukuda, Flanagan

Japan's Jo Fukuda and Lindsay Flanagan of USA won the Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon 2022. Results and recap below. Flanagan won her race with a new personal best of 2:24:35.

GOLD COAST, Australia (July 3) — The Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon 2022 results, which took place in Australia on Sunday (3). Japan’s Jo Fukuda and Lindsay Flanagan of USA won the men’s and women’s titles in 2:10:48 and 2:24:35, respectively after.

Flanagan, the Pan American Games silver medalist winner in 2015, won the women’s race with a new personal best time, improving her previous PB of 2:26:54, set in Paris in April. Australia’s Lisa Weightman just missed her personal best, but did run her second-best time in her career when stopping the clock at 2:25:55 for second place, while Japan’s Shiho Kaneshige was third in 2:29:04.

Completing the top five finishers was Stephanie Bruce of USA who ran 2:32:22 for fourth place with 

Haruka Yamaguchi of Japan following in. 5th at 2:34:49.

Fukuda won the men’s contest with a new season-best of 2:10:48, getting home way ahead of his countryman Akihiro Kaneko, who ran 2:14:18 for second place and Amaury Paquet (2:15:45) of Belgium.

The top Australian finisher was Louis McAfee who finished fourth at 2:17:43.

The Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon was returning for face-to-face competition for the first time since 2019, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the organizers to stage the event virtually.
