Northern Arizona University successfully defended its men’s team title at the 2022 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, hosted by Oklahoma State at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Nov. 19.

Northern Arizona finished on the same among of points as Oklahoma State University with 83, but the Lumberjacks won the title on the tie-breaker 3-2 –which resulted from head-to-head finishes of the top-2 team’s first five runners.

NAU, which was defending the team title in 2021 on this same course, won its sixth title in the last seven years under coach Mike Smith. Read More: The 2022 ACC Cross Country Championships Results and Team Scores; NC State and Wake Forest win titles

The top two teams were followed by BYU with 132 points in third place, then came Stanford with 195pts and Wake Forest with 204pts in rounding out the top five teams.

The individual 10k title went to Stanford’s Charles Hicks, who timed his first perfectly to clock 28:43.6 and became the first Stanford man to ever win an individual NCAA cross country title.

Hicks broke away early in a three-man pack that also included NAU’s Nico Young and Drew Bosley before pulling away from the pair in the end to the crown. Young finished second with 28:44.5, while Bosley took third place with 28:55.9.

Dylan Jacobs of Tennessee ran very well to take fourth place with a time of 28:58 and Oklahoma State’s Alex Maier completed the top five finishers with a time of 28:58.2.
