Alaysha Johnson edged World Indoor silver medalist Devynne Charlton to win the women’s 60m hurdles with Lolo Jones finishing 6th, while Brittany Brown and Lawrence Johnson won the women’s and men’s 60m dashes at the American Track League – 2023 Hawkeye Pro Classic on Saturday.
Johnson Beats Charlton
In an exciting women’s 60m hurdles final, American Alaysha Johnson got the better of Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton in a close encounter. Johnson, making her season debut in the event, finished the race with a time of 7.84 seconds, while Charlton came in second with a time of 7.89 seconds to improve her season’s best.
Myreanna Bebe rounded out the podium with a personal best of 8.11 seconds. Veteran American Lolo Jones, still enjoying the competition, was pushed down to 6th place with a time of 8.35 secs
In the men’s 60m hurdles, it was also a close battle between the top three finishers. In the end, Freddie Crittenden and Michael Dickson both finished with a time of 7.53 seconds, with Crittenden taking first place on a photo finish decision.
Louis Rollins came in third with a season-best of 7.60 seconds, while Chris Douglas of Australia finished in fourth with a time of 7.64 seconds.
Brittany Brown and Lawrence Johnson Take Dashes
The women’s 60m dash was dominated by American runners, with Brittany Brown leading the way en route to setting a personal best of 7.20 seconds.
Makayla Jackson and Destiny Smith-Barnett finished second and third, respectively, with times of 7.30 and 7.32 seconds. Caira Pettway and Lasarah Hargrove rounded out the top five with similiar times of 7.36 seconds.
In the men’s 60m dash, Lawrence Johnson came out on top stopping the clock at 6.61 seconds. Miles Lewis of Puerto Rico and Brandon Carnes of the United States were both credited with 6.62 secs, while Jerod Elcock of Trinidad and Tobago finished in fourth in 6.65.
Elsewhere at the American Track League – 2023 Hawkeye Pro Classic, the women’s 800m race was won by Olivia Baker of the United States, who clocked 2:02.50 to beat Brenna Detra and Wilma Nielsen who came in second and third, respectively, with times of 2:02.64 and 2:03.46.
The women’s 300m race went to Nicole Yeargin of Scotland in a time of 36.89 seconds, with the men’s contest going to Paul Dedewo of the USA in 33.42.
