Christian Coleman runs 20.64, wins 200m at Razorback Invitational

USA sprint star Christian Coleman opened his season with a quality run of 20.64 to win the men’s 200m at Razorback Invitational 2023 on Friday night (27).

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. —— American sprint ace Christian Coleman won the men’s 200 meters Open at the 2023 Razorback Invitational with a time of 20.64 seconds here in Fayetteville, AR, on Friday night to get his new season up and running.

Coleman, who owns an indoor season best of 20.11 seconds, set in 2017, won the second of the two section finals on the evening after easily running away from countryman Will London who clocked 21.45 secs for second place in the heat, with Khallifah Rosser (21.70), a finalist in the 400m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon 2022, getting third in the same heat.

Jamaica’s 400m hurdles World Championship finalist Jaheel Hyde, making a rare appearance indoors, clocked 21.40 seconds to win the first section and finished second overall behind Coleman.

Raymond Ekevwo, the All Africa Games 100m champion in 2019, was expected to be a factor in the event but ran 22.21 for fourth in section one before being subsequently disqualified. Read more: Watch Matthew Boling vs Micah Williams vs Favour Ashe in 60m at Texas Tech Open

Christian Coleman will now look to complete the sprint double when he races in the 60m on Saturday’s second day of action.

The women’s 200m Open final went USA’s Alexis Holmes, who clocked 23.40 secs to edge out compatriot Na’Asha Robinson, who was second overall with a time of 23.47.

2016 Olympic 400m hurdles champion Dalilah Muhammad of the USA produced a time of 23.93 on her way to winning heat one for a season opener in a flat event, with Jamaica’s Andrenette Knight clocking 23.99 to also dip under the 24-seconds barrier.

Two-time European 400m hurdles silver medalist Anna Ryzhykova of Ukraine won the first heat with a time of 24.47 for the sixth-fastest time overall this evening. Her PB indoor for this event is 24.18secs.
