Among the starters on the women’s side are “double-American record holder, a returning legend, and debut of an all-time great” and you can watch them live in action on ABC-13 YouTube Channel and via the website. Emily Sisson, Molly Huddle, and Jenny Simpson of USA, Ethiopian legend and the 2017 Chicago Marathon champion and 16-time world champion, Tirunesh Dibaba and her teammate Hiwot Gebrekidan, plus Nazret Weldu of Eritrea, are among the featured starters on the women’s side.
“Houston is a famous race, and my training has been going well,” said Dibaba. “It seemed like the best way to test myself and see what could be next.”
“All of the racers I am learning from speak so highly of their experience with the Aramco Houston Half Marathon,” said Simpson. “It’s the perfect place for me to make my half marathon debut because the timing, course and organization are so well tested.”
Meanwhile, the strong men’s elite field is headlined by London, Frankfurt, and Rome marathon champion Shura Kitata of Ethiopia who will race the Houston Half Marathon for the 4th time.
The top American in the field is Conner Mantz, with Shadrack Kipchirchir, Reed Fischer and Sydney Gidabuday also starting this weekend.
The men’s elite field also includes last year’s London Marathon runner-up Leul Gebresilase Aleme of Ethiopia, Olympian Mohamed El Aaraby of Morocco and former NCAA standout Edward Cheserek.
