In past races, Japanese runners have dominated, claiming six of the past seven titles, but this year could be dominated by overseas visitors, with the likes of Maurine Chepkemoi, Haven Hailu, and Meseret Gola among the leading candidates to take the win at this year’s edition.
Still, the home supporters will be hoping that the presence of Yuka Ando, Sayaka Sato, and Mao Uesugi will be enough to break up the traveling contingent.
The 2023 Osaka women’s marathon will also serve as the Japan Marathon Championships Series, in addition to the selection trials for the World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023.
