
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Camperdown Classic 2023 meeting inside the National Stadium in Kingston saw Titans Track Club sprinters Ackeem Blake and Briana Williams among the highlighted winners, capturing the men’s and women’s Invitational 60 meters titles.
Williams, the 2021 Olympic 4x100m relay gold medalist, set the pace with her solid winning time of 7.22 seconds to take the women’s race. Read more: Christian Coleman shines with facility record after Lyle was disqualified
The 20-year-old, who recently relocated to Jamaica to train locally with Yohan Blake, demonstrated that things have been going well so far with her impressive performance to start the new season.
Williams easily finished ahead of Jura Levy of Legacy Athletics, who clocked 7.34 seconds for second place, and Rohanna Wright of Swept TC.
In her post-race interview, Williams shared her excitement about her training, saying, “I am enjoying training.” She also revealed that her goal for the night was to work on her 100m, and she felt that it went well.
In the men’s 60m, meanwhile, Ackeem Blake just edged out his training partner and 2011 World 100m champion Yohan Blake to take the top spot.
Ackeem posted a winning time of 6.63 seconds, with Yohan just behind at 6.64 seconds.
The Camperdown Classic 2023 meeting showcased several of Jamaica’s young high school talents, while a number of professionals also used the opportunity to kick-start their seasons.
