
Indiana State and Illinois State won the men’s and women’s respective team titles at the 2023 Missouri Valley Indoor Conference Championships on Monday (27) hosted at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center.
In the women’s category, Illinois State dominated the competition with an impressive score of 130, followed by Murray State with 108 points and Indiana State with 99 points. Bradley, Southern Illinois, Belmont, Northern Iowa, Missouri State, Drake, and UIC completed the final team scores. The standout performer of the women’s events was undoubtedly Nicola Jansen of Bradley, Meghan Fletcher of Murray State, Ryann Porter of Indiana State, and Iaunia Pointer of Southern Illinois, who all scored 20 points and were named Most Valuable Athletes of the meet.
Wilma Nielsen of Bradley took home the Most Outstanding Track Athlete award for her impressive performance, while Shauniece O’Neal of Southern Illinois and Dawson Plab of Southern Illinois received the Most Outstanding Field Athlete awards for their top-ranking performances on the NCAA list.
In the men’s category, meanwhile, Indiana State edged out Illinois State with a score of 153 to 149 points. Northern Iowa secured the third position with 123 points, while Southern Illinois, Bradley, Drake, Belmont, Valparaiso, and UIC completed the top ten teams.
Carter Morton of Northern Iowa was the most outstanding performer in the men’s category, scoring an impressive 34 points and earning the title of Most Valuable Athlete.
JaVaughn Moore of Indiana State and Wilma Nielsen of Bradley were named the Most Outstanding Track Athletes, while Shauniece O’Neal of Southern Illinois and Dawson Plab of Southern Illinois received the Most Outstanding Field Athlete awards.
The Freshman of the Year awards were given to Peyton Schieppe of Bradley and Xavier Preston of Southern Illinois, respectively. Ryann Porter of Indiana State and William Stagg of Indiana State were named Elite 17 for their academic achievements.
In the coaching categories, Jeff Bovee was named Assistant Coach of the Year in the women’s category, while Angela Martin of Indiana State received the Coach of the Year award in the men’s category.
