Swedish pole vault star Mondo Duplantis, Jamaican sprint sensation Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and US 400m hurdles ace Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone are among the track and field athletes nominated for Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year honors in this year’s Laureus World Sport Awards.
American McLaughlin-Levrone broke the world record twice last season in her specialty event, the 400m hurdles. After a stunning performance to win the US Championships, she returned weeks later to with a second record-breaking performance on her way to winning the World Athletics Championships 2022 title with an even more outstanding 50.68 seconds.
McLaughlin-Levrone collected a second gold medal at Oregon22 when she anchored the US team to another 4x400m victory.
Six-time Laureus Awards nomination for Fraser-Pryce

Jamaican sprint sensation, Fraser-Pryce, also had an outstanding year, winning her fifth world 100m title, while the flashing world-leading 10.62 seconds performance was among her record seven sub-10.70 100m races of the season.
Fraser-Pryce expressed her gratitude and honor at another Laureus World Sport Awards nomination, stating, “I would like to thank the world’s sports media for this special nomination. This is my sixth nomination for the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award, and it is a great honor.”
Meanwhile, another world record-breaker, Duplantis, the prominent Swedish pole vault athlete, had an exceptional year in 2022.
During his standout performances last season, Mondo secured a pair of global titles, won 18 of his 19 competitions, and completed the accolade set for the year with three world records.
In total, he cleared six meters or higher, an impressive 23 times. His highest clearance of 6.21m was achieved at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22.

Others Up For Laureus Awards…
The list of nominees for this year, celebrating exceptional sporting achievements, featured six nominees chosen in seven categories, and five programs shortlisted for the Laureus Sport for Good Award.
Nigerian sprint hurdle star Tobi Amusan is nominated for the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award for shattering the world 100m hurdles record at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon.
Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen is up for the Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award after winning the 5000m in Oregon, following his defeat in the 1500m by Briton Jake Wightman.
The Laureus World Sport Awards are one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in the world of sport, recognizing outstanding athletes for their contributions to the sport and the world.
The award winners will be selected by the Laureus World Sports Academy, a panel of 71 sporting legends, and revealed at the annual ceremony.
