Who are the favorites to win the women’s 60m hurdles title?
Women’s 60m Hurdles Preview: The women’s 60m hurdles heats at the 2023 US Indoor Championships promises to be exciting with several top athletes vying for a spot in the final. The likes of Taliyah Brooks, Alaysha Johnson, Anna Cockrell and Tonea Marshall are all expected to be among the leading contenders.
I am expecting Johnson to take the title this weekend, but she could face stiff competition from NCAA standouts Cockrell and Marshall, who are both capable of running very fast times. – READ MORE: How to watch the UK Athletics Indoor Championships 2023?
In Heat one, multi-event star Brooks will be looking to continue her good form in the event this season when she takes on Alaysha Johnson has been in good form this season where she’s already clocked two personal bests and consistently running quick times.
The first will also see veteran sprint hurdler Lolo Jones competing for a place in the final, with Birgen Nelson and Cha’Mia Rothwell also aiming to make their presence felt in the field.
However, Brooks and Johnson are expected to be the leading starters to progress to the final from this heat.
Meanwhile, Heat 2 features Anna Cockrell and Tonea Marshall, who will battle it out for the top spot. Amber Hughes and Jada Green will also look to make it to the final from this heat.
Who are the favorites to win the men’s 60m hurdles title?
Men’s 60m Hurdles Preview: The men’s 60m hurdles heats at the 2023 US Indoor Championships should be a close and intense battle, despite the absence of some of the top athletes in the country.
Pan American 2019 silver medalist in the 110m hurdles, Freddie Crittenden, is the favorite to win the men’s race and he comes in with the 6th fastest time in 2023.
Crittenden, who owns a personal best of 7.53 seconds, set earlier this season, will face tough competition from 2021 NCAA 110m hurdles champion Robert Dunning, who is also in good form, having clocked 7.60 secs for a PB this season.
Heat 1 will also see Crittenden and Dunning going up against Tyrin Lewis, and Paris Williams.
Louis Rollins, meanwhile, comes in with PB of 7.59 secs and will battle it out in Heat 2, with the likes of Joshua Braverman and Jaylan McConico also aiming to progress to the final.
Notably, World record holder Grant Holloway and former national champion Daniel Roberts, the two fastest men in the world this season –are not participating, which creates an opportunity for other competitors to shine.
