
New York – Abby Steiner made history at the 2023 Millrose Games, breaking the American record in the Women’s 300m indoor event held at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York on Saturday (11). In only her second attempt at the discipline, Steiner posted an outstanding 35.54 seconds, comfortably surpassing the previous US record of 35.71 secs set by Quanera Hayes in 2017.
Abby Steiner Record-Breaking 300m Splits
The World Championships double relay gold medalist demonstrated her class, balancing her pace and endurance to secure the win. Steiner opened with 11.80 secs in the first 100m and went through the first 200m at 23.06 secs after an 11.26 secs split in the second 100m.

Steiner was pushed by 2019 World Championships silver medalist and compatriot Brittany Brown, who ran 36.13 secs for second place, while Leah Anderson of Jamaica clocked a personal best of 36.68 secs to take third.

In her post-race interview, Steiner shared her thoughts on the event, saying “It’s definitely one of those races I think you learn a little bit about every time you run it.”
The former Kentucky and NCAA standout sprinter, set the collegiate record at 35.80 secs in her first 300m race back in 2021, and her latest feat places her at No. 3 on the all-time best performers chart over the discipline, behind joint world record holders Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas and Russia’s Irina Privalova, who both clocked 35.45 secs.
The Millrose Games 2023, which featured several world-class athletes across a number of disciplines, was certainly an evening to remember for Steiner, who continues to make her mark on the track and field world, solidifying her status as the world’s best sprinters and without a doubt one to watch as the season progresses.
