The 29th Banskobystricka latka – a 2023 World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver series meeting in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, on Tuesday (14) was marked by an exceptional performance from Hamish Kerr and another strong outing by Yaroslava Mahuchikh on their way to taking home the men’s and women’s high jump titles respectively.
In the men’s event, Kerr stole the show with a new New Zealand national record of 2.34m, defeating the Ukraine World and European bronze medalist Andriy Protsenko who finished second with a clearance of 2.32m.

The third place was secured by Edgar Rivera of Mexico, who cleared the bar at 2.25m, while Luis Zayas of Cuba and Douwe Amels of The Netherlands also cleared the same height of 2.25m.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh Continues Strong Start in 2023
Yaroslava Mahuchikh continued her early-season dominance on the women’s side, staying undefeated by clearing the bar at 1.97m to take the high jump title.
The World Indoor champion in 2022 successfully cleared 1.91m and then skipped 1.93m, choosing to clear 1.95m and 1.97m on her first attempts.
Mahuchikh, who holds the world lead this season with a mark of 2.02m, attempted 2.04m to improve her world-lead, but failed on all three tries.
Italian Elena Vallortigara took second place by clearing the bar at 1.95m, while Montenegrin Marija Vuković secured third place with the same height.
The Banskobystrická latka meeting has been a great platform for athletes to showcase their skills and the high jump competition did not disappoint. The performances of Mahuchikh and Kerr were exceptional, showing the world that they are in great form early in the season.
