Spain's Ilias Fifa in the Men's 5000m race

BURJASSOT, Spain (26 March, 2023) — Ilias Fifa and Isabel Barreiro won the 10,000m championships in 27:59.76 and 32:03.37 at the 2023 Trofeo Iberico-Spanish National Senior Championships, held at Pista Los Silos on Saturday (25).

FIFA, the 2016 European Championships 5000m champion, displayed an outstanding performance, finishing the race in 27:59.76 to clinch the men’s title. The 33-year-old had a solid start to his 2023 season, recording a time of 27:57 in the 10km event in Valencia in January and he continued that form on the track this weekend.

Roberto Alaiz came in second on Saturday with a time of 28:08.46, while Lahcen Ait Alibou secured the bronze medal with a personal best of 28:25.01. Read more: Mo Farah to warm-up for London Marathon with 10km race in Gabon

Meanwhile, Barreiro won the women’s title, crossing the finish line at 32:03.37. Paula Herrero gave a strong performance and secured second place with a time of 32:05.35, followed by Cristina Ruiz, who completed the race with a time of 32:08.70.

In the Portuguese Championships, the Men’s 10,000m title went to Miguel Marques with a time of 28:52.42, followed by Duarte Gomes at 29:13.01 and André Pereira at 29:23.46.
