CALIFORNIA (March 24, 2023) – Anna Purchase from California leads the women’s field in the Hammer Throw competition at the 2023 Aztec Invitational taking place at the Aztrack Sports Deck in San Diego on Friday, March 24. Purchase, a British national, will be making her outdoor debut at the event, which will be live-streamed on RunnerSpace on Saturday.

Purchase, who had limited participation in competitions during the campaign, featured in only one meet for Cal during this indoor season but failed to register a mark in the weight throw at the Don Kirby Invitational in February.

However, the 23-year-old will be hoping to start her outdoor season on a winning note as she enters the 2023 Aztec Invitational with the best personal best in the women’s Hammer Throw, at 70.63m (231′ 8″). Read more: How to watch the Annual Aztec Invitational 2023? Micah Williams to run 100m

Tough Competition Awaits Purchase?

She will compete in the second of the two flights of the event, which will see Lithuania’s three-time national champion Agne Lukoseviciute, Purchase’s California teammate Audrey Jacobs, and Amelia DiPaola of Fresno State as leading podium candidates.

The meet and facility records are both owned by Alyssa Wilson, who set the records at 68.11m in 2019. It remains to be seen if Anna Purchase will challenge this record on Friday.

Will Purchase challenge this record on Friday? Only time will tell.
