Kyle Garland of Georgia leads Mt. Sac Relays 2023

WALNUT, Calif. (April 12) – Allie Jones of USC and Georgia’s Kyle Garland made impressive starts to lead the Elite multi-event competitions at the 2023 Mt. SAC Relays on Wednesday, 12 April, at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

Jones, the 2023 NCAA Indoor runner-up in the Pentathlon, transitioned smoothly to her first Heptathlon of the season, setting three personal bests in individual events to finish the opening day with a new personal best of 3779 points. The graduate student transfer from Stanford clocked a personal best of 13.10 seconds in the 100m hurdles, cleared 1.74m in the high jump, and threw 13.06m in the shot put. Jones closed out the day with a 23.43 secs performance in the 200m, heading into the second day with a 23-point lead over Chari Hawkins, who sits second on 3756pts.

Olympic sixth-place finisher Annie Kunz is in third place with 3727pts, followed by Ida Eikeng of Washington with 3709pts and Erin Marsh with 3587pts, rounding out the top five.

Olympian Erica Bougard participated in the first two events (100m hurdles and high jump) before withdrawing from the competition.

On the men’s side, Kyle Garland leads the Men’s Decathlon Elite standings after the first five events with 4507 points, followed by Harrison Williams in second place with 4471pts, and Kendrick Thompson from The Bahamas in third place with 4345pts.
