Bouwahjgie Nkrumie of Jamaica wins a silver a the World U20 Championships

NASSAU, Bahamas (April 7) – Carifta Games 2023 is set to kick-off at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in Nassau on Saturday, April 8, featuring the most talented athletes in the region. The clear favorite is Jamaican sprinter Bouwahjgie Nkrumie after setting a new Jamaica national junior record, finishing with a blistering 9.99 seconds performance at the Boys and Girls Champs 2023 last week. Nkrumie will compete in heat three, facing off against home fan favorite Adam Musgrove from the Bahamas and Guadeloupe’s Jeremy Dalphrased.

Defending champion DeAndre Daley, also from Jamaica, finished second to Nkrumie at the Boys and Girls Champs and posted a personal best of 10.14 secs. Daley will begin his title defense from heat five, competing against Ajani Daley of Antigua & Barbuda and Grenada’s Emilio Bishop.

Jaiden Reid from the Cayman Islands, who is also expected to contend for a medal, will start from heat one alongside Carlos Brown of The Bahamas, while potential finalists and possible medal conteders, Kyle Lawrence of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Ezekiel Newton of Guyana, and Aragorn Straker of Barbados will compete in subsequent heats.

The U20 Boys 100m heats will mark the start of a highly anticipated competition at the 2023 Carifta Games, which will take place over the coming three days and will run until April 10.
