Who will lead Jamaica’s sprinters at the Miramar Invitational in Florida?
Seville has a personal best of 9.86 seconds in the 100 meters and will be one of six Jamaicans competing in the event. The Glen Mills-trained 22-year-old sprinter kicked off his season at the John Wolmer Speed Fest last month with a time of 10.13 seconds (-2.0 m/s) and hopes to improve on this performance this weekend. Seville will be joined by Ackeem Blake, a young Jamaican sprinter who has clocked 9.92 seconds for the 100m and 6.42 seconds (outdoor) for the 60m this season. NACAC 200m champion Andrew Hudson, who has already recorded a personal best time of 10.12 seconds this season and ran a slightly wind-aided 10.05 (+2.1 m/s) at the 2023 Pepsi Florida Relays earlier this month, will also compete in the event. Michael Campbell, Raheem Chambers, and Oshane Bailey will also represent Jamaica in the event.
Ronnie Baker, the highest-profile American athlete in the event, will compete against Michael Rodgers, Kyree King, and Cravont Charleston. Baker, who finished fifth in the 100m at the Tokyo Olympics and won bronze over 60m at the 2018 World Indoor Championships, has a personal best of 9.83 seconds but will make his season debut in this event.
The Miramar Invitational is expected to be a highly anticipated event with several top athletes such as Seville and Baker competing. Once again, fans who are unable to travel to the Ansin Sports Complex, can stream the event live on the official meet website to watch the action unfold.
