KINGSTON (April 21, 2023) — Jamaican sprinter and five-time Olympic champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah, has been added to the women’s 100-meter field for the 2023 Velocity Fest 13 on Saturday, 22 April, at the National Stadium in Kingston. Initially not listed in the starting lineup, Thompson-Herah will join the lineup that includes world 200m champion Shericka Jackson and several of the country’s top juniors.
Thompson-Herah, who last competed at the Tom Jones Memorial meet in Florida a week ago, where she finished second in the Olympic Development 200m, will be making her season debut in the 100m at Velocity Fest 13. The 30-year-old has had a slow start to her season so far, but the Rio and Tokyo sprint double champion will be looking to set a benchmark to boost her confidence ahead of a long and challenging championship season. – Read more: Shericka Jackson to Open 100m Season at Velocity Fest 13; Heats and Startlist
Thompson-Herah will compete in the third heat of the women’s 100m at Velocity Fest 13 on Saturday, alongside juniors Briana Williams and Tina Clayton, who are also making their season debuts in the event. Shockoria Wallace, Jura Levy and Krystal Sloley are also part of the lineup.
The top 16 fastest times from the three heats will advance to the final, which will consist of two sections and be decided on times, with the top eight fastest qualifiers competing in one section.
This could set up an exciting final showdown between Thompson-Herah and world silver medalist Shericka Jackson, who is also making her season debut in the 100m.
